Like all the other sheds JHS does regular maintenance of maintenance of Diesel Locomotives in [[Indian Railways]]. It is now rated as one of the most premier shed of the Indian Railways. It initially handled only ALCo locomotives like WDM-2, WDM-3D, WDG-3A etc. But gradually it started receiving EMD locomotives like WDP-4 and WDG-4. Being the only Diesel Loco Shed in the North Central Railway zone JHS does various major and minor maintenance of diesel locomotives including washing and painting of locomotives. It was established in the year 1975 with only 5 WDM-2 class locomotives. Gradually it's capacity increased and it started to home mainy other ALCo and HHP locomotives. It has a sanctioned capacity of 80-100 locomotives.
