The southern private bus stand is named after the ruler [[Sakthan Thampuran]] and is in Shaktan Thampuran Nagar, which is also named after him. Shaktan Thampuran Private Bus Stand is situated in one of the most important commercial areas of [[Thrissur]] city. Earlier, the place which is now called Shaktan Thampuran Nagar was a vast [[paddy field]]. Due to the arrival of [[Pope John Paul II]] in [[Thrissur]], the paddy field was converted to this form. Now it has become a major commercial hub of [[Kerala]].

Shaktan Thampuran Private Bus Stand is one of the first largest private bus terminal in Kerala, India and is located at the southern part of the Thrissur city.[1] This bus stand is only 1 km away from Thrissur city. [2] As of 2015, over 1200 buses conduct service in the terminal[3] and over 3500 services are conducted daily.[4][5]
