Indiana University (IU) is a major multicampus public research institution, grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, and a world leader in professional, medical, and technological education. Indiana University’s mission is to provide broad access to undergraduate and graduate education for students throughout Indiana, the United States, and the world, as well as outstanding academic and cultural programs and student services.[1]

Campuses[edit]

Indiana University has two core campuses, five regional campuses, and two regional centers under the administration of IUPUI. Each one of the institutions is an accredited, four-year degree-granting institution.

In addition to its core campuses, Indiana University comprises seven extensions throughout Indiana:[6]

Indiana University School of Medicine, School of Social Work has degree programs running across IU campuses.[7][8] Indiana University Kelley School of Business, School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, O'Neil School of Public and Environmental Affairs, School of Education has degree programs running at both Indiana University Bloomington (IU Bloomington) and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campuses.[9][10][11] Indiana University School of Nursing has degree programs running at IUB, IUPUI, and IU Fort Wayne campuses.[12]

According to the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the value of the endowment of the Indiana University and affiliated foundations in 2016 is over $1.986 billion.[13] The annual budget across all campuses totals over $3 Billion.[14]

The Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation (IURTC) is a not-for-profit agency that assists IU faculty and researchers in realizing the commercial potential of their discoveries. Since 1997, university clients have been responsible for more than 1,800 inventions, nearly 500 patents, and 38 start-up companies.[15]

In the 2016 Fiscal Year alone, the IURTC was issued 53 U.S. patents and 112 global patents.[16]
