The film stars [[Prabhu (actor)|Prabhu]], [[Saranya Ponvannan|Saranya]] and [[Lissy (actress)|Lissy]], with [[Sarath Babu]] and [[Senthamarai (actor)|Senthamarai]] in supporting roles. It is a remake of the 1986 [[Malayalam]] film ''[[Thalavattam]]'' which was inspired by the 1975 film ''[[One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (film)|One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest]]'' which in turn was an adaptation of the 1962 novel ''[[One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (novel)|One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest]]'' by [[Ken Kesey]]. The film was released on 24 June 1988 and Prabhu won the [[Cinema Express Award for Best Actor – Tamil]].
