Kumaran came from a respected wealthy Thiyya family of Thalassery, Kannur. He was the second S.N.D.P Yogam General Secretary but he could not continue in that post for a long time since he was very busy in his official duty. He had to leave the SNDP Yogam[clarification needed] when he got promotion as a judge.[citation needed] He was a disciple of Narayana Guru and wrote the first biography of Guru. This biography contains the essence of Guru's message. He has initiated to install first statue of Narayana Guru in Kerala when he was alive.
