Koupalu (Old Manipuri: ꯀꯧꯄꯂꯨ), also spelled as Koubru (Meitei: ꯀꯧꯕ꯭ꯔꯨ), is a primordial deity in Meitei mythology and religion. He is the Guardian of the North West direction.[2][3] Legend says he is the founder of civilization in Ancient Manipur (Antique Kangleipak),[4] starting from the Mount Koupalu (Mount Koubru), a peak where he abodes, in north-western Manipur.[5][6]
