== Roadmap for the Rabies Control Campaign in India: Saving Humans and Animals ==

BY DR. R.B. CHAUDHARY
== Suggestion for Improving Cricket-Related Information ==

ABSTRACT
Hello,

As per the directions of the Supreme Court of India in its order dated 7 November 2025 (reaffirmed on 19 May 2026) in the suo motu case In Re: “City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay Price”, municipal authorities across the country must forthwith remove all stray dogs from the premises of educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stands/depots and railway stations. These dogs are to be sterilised and vaccinated in accordance with the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, and permanently relocated to designated shelters; they shall not be released back to the same locations. Under the monitoring of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), all State Governments and Union Territories are implementing these directions by establishing at least one functional ABC centre in every district, scaling up mass sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination drives, and ensuring fencing of institutional premises. These steps form a core component of India’s National Action Plan for Dog-Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030 (NAPRE), aimed at addressing the country’s heavy burden of an estimated 20,000+ annual human rabies deaths (predominantly dog-mediated) and millions of dog-bite cases reported each year.  India bears the world’s highest burden of dog-mediated human rabies, causing thousands of preventable deaths every year. A national roadmap for rabies control adopts a One Health approach that simultaneously protects people and animals. Core pillars include sustained mass dog vaccination targeting ≥70 % coverage, large-scale animal birth-control programmes, and universal access to timely post-exposure prophylaxis and vaccines for bite victims. Strengthened surveillance, improved laboratory capacity, community awareness on responsible pet ownership and first-aid, and coordinated action by health, veterinary and municipal authorities form the operational backbone. The strategy aligns with the global goal of eliminating dog-mediated human rabies by 2030 while improving animal welfare.

@Bharatwiki Socrates and Dokania: Sorry, guys, I wasn't around. When you say the Main Page, do you mean the redesigned one with different cards, sections, a sidebar, etc., or the regular Main Page visible in the Vector skin? The news section on the redesigned Main Page fetches data via API from various pages. To keep it maintained, we would need a separate page, such as Main Page/news, where the news can be updated regularly. The first section and the recent deaths section on the Main Page pull data from 2026 in India, so that page also needs to be kept up to date. I just noticed that the main page is currently generated using Template:Main Bharatpedia page, which pulls content from various pages and templates, such as Main Page/Introduction, Main Page/Knowledge groups, {{News}}, {{Did you know}}, Main Page/topics and Main Page/languages. To achieve this, we need to maintain and regularly update these pages and templates so that the main page displays the latest information. WikiDwarf (talk) 13:24, 7 October 2026 (IST)Reply
can't it be synchronised like in BPneo skin? Dokania (talk) 13:27, 7 October 2026 (IST)Reply
I need to check if we can create a script to pull data using API. WikiDwarf (talk) 13:31, 7 October 2026 (IST)Reply
@Dokania: Done. I have created a script and module to keep the main page updated automatically. For the Recent News and Recent Deaths sections, please keep 2026 in India updated, and the script will automatically pull the relevant information. If you don't see the changes, please hard-refresh the page or purge the cache, then let me know if it works for you. WikiDwarf (talk) 14:47, 7 October 2026 (IST)Reply
