ZEE5 or Z5 is an Indian subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming television service owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises.[2] It was launched in India on 14 February 2018 with content in 12 languages.[3] The ZEE5 mobile app is available on Android, iOS, and BlackBerry.[4] In December 2018, ZEE5 had 56.3 million monthly active users,[5] increasing to 65.9 million by the end of 2020.[6]

Merger[edit | edit source]

On 15 February 2018, Zee consolidated dittoTV along with its advertising-supported streaming platform, OZEE (launched in February 2016),[7] into ZEE5. The merger unified Zee's digital operations into a single service featuring over 100,000 hours of movies, original series, television broadcasts, and music across 12 regional languages.[8]

dittoTV[edit | edit source]

Launched in 2012 by Zee Entertainment Enterprises' digital arm, Zee Digital Convergence Limited, dittoTV was a subscription-based video-on-demand and over-the-top streaming platform.[3] It distributed live television and catch-up programming across mobile devices, computers, and connected televisions, offering more than 100 live channels. The service operated in India and international markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and New Zealand, and featured an electronic programme guide, content recommendations, and multi-currency support.[9]

In July 2019, ZEE5 and ALTBalaji announced that ZEE5 subscribers would get seamless access to ALTBalaji's originals in addition to existing ZEE5 content.[16] ZEE5 made an exclusive deal with The Blunt for five web series, starting with Faltu Engineers.[17]
