Rashid Byramji is a horse trainer, also known as "horse whisperer" of Indian horse racing. He has trained both all time great horses seen on Indian turf, Elusive Pimpernel (22 of 23 starts)[1][2] and Squanderer (18 of 19 starts).[3] He was third generation professional lasted fifty years in this trade. Byramji retired at the end of Bangalore winter season, in March 2017. His all-India record stands at 3170 wins including 230 classics, 10 Indian Derby winners and 12 Indian Invitation Cup winners. Byramji was crowned champion trainer 42 times in a career that started six decades back in 1956.[4][5][6][7][8]
Byramji, a resident of Bengaluru, was married to Dolly Nazir — the swimmer who competed in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.[9] His son Darius has also followed in his father's footsteps to be a horse trainer as well.[10]
