Bedi Port is an all-weather Cargo port located on the southern coast of Gulf of Kutch near the city of Jamnagar, on the west coast of India.[1] The port is located at a distance of 65 Kms south of Kandla and 50 Kms east of Okha.It has a cargo terminal which opened in 2022.[2]
Facilities
The Bedi port has also become the second in Saurashtra to get rail connectivity. The Bedi Port is also the only port in Jamnagar, situated on the Southern coastline of the Gulf of Kutch. The first cargo to be transported from the port using the newly opened rail link was imported coal.[2][3]
Capacity
The Bedi port is capable of handling approximately 14.6 lakh tonnes of coal annually and 12.20 lakh tonnes of various other products. The upgraded facilities at the port will help increase the port’s cargo handling capacity and ease the traffic at various ports in the state like Kandla, Mundra etc. The construction of the railway line, which was carried out through a public-private partnership model, started in early 2022.[2]The project was executed by Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (G-RIDE), the Gujarat government's joint venture with the Indian Railways.[4]
Upgradation
Gujarat’s Bedi Port in Jamnagar is set to become a multi-modal hub, a private freight terminal for containers. The upgraded facilities will increase the port’s cargo handling capacity and in turn, might also ease traffic at Mundra, Kandla and other ports in the state. Furthermore, sources believe that the proposed freight terminal will streamline the processes and also reduce logistics costs significantly.[5]
