'KHATI' Means the one who works with wood. The Hindi word 'काठ' 'KATH' means wood, and the one who works with it called 'काठी' 'KATHI' which became later 'खाती' KHATI.

Khati is a Dalit carpenter caste found primarily in Haryana. They are classified as an Other Backward Class caste, and use Jangra or Jangir title but not all Jangras are khati, some are Brahmin and some are Vishwakarma too.[1][2]
