Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku: Difference between revisions

Mahmud was born into a [[Bengali Muslim]] family of [[Taluqdar]]s in Sirajganj town, [[Sirajganj District]] which was formerly in [[Pabna District]], [[Pakistan]]. Mahmmod is the founder director of Apex Group of Industries. He was the first exporter of garments products from Bangladesh to Europe. His company Apex Group of Industries is the pioneer in leather, shoes, frozen fish, garments, home textile etc, He was the member of parliament since 1984. He was the first chairman of Sirajgonj District Board. He served as the State Minister of Power in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government from 2001 to 2006.<ref>{{cite news |title=Father does not believe it|url=http://www.thedailystar.net/news-detail-219925|work=The Daily Star|date=26 January 2012|language=en|access-date=21 January 2017}}</ref> The [[Bangladesh Anti Corruption Commission]] on 21 March 2007 filed a case, accusing him of accumulating 25 million taka through illegal means. On 15 November 2007, he was sentenced by a special court to nine years in jail in the case. He filed an appeal against the verdict in December 2007. On 16 June 2011, he was acquitted in [[Bangladesh High Court]]. On 4 December 2011 the Anti Corruption commission filed an appeal against the verdict. Mahmud was the eldest son of [[Abdullah al Mahmood]], [[Ministry of Industries and Production (Pakistan)|Minister of Industries and Natural Resources of Pakistan]], His sister Tashmina Matin was a renowned doctor and the brother-in-law of former Deputy Prime Minister of Bangladesh M.A. Matin. His younger brother, Manzur Hassan Mahmmod, was Mayor of Sirajganj Municipality.{{citation needed|date=November 2021}}
