He wanted to become an Army officer but failed to do so later in second attempt became IPS officer in 2015.[4] Since January 2022, he is the DCP South, Jaipur.[5] Earlier, he was the SP Of Dholpur and then Karauli. Apart from this, He served as SP in ACB Ajmer, CO Ganganagar Rural and ASP Bhilwara.

He caught 44 dacoits in 11 months[6] during his SP tenure in Dholpur. [7] On 3rd December 2021, Mridul Kachawa was awarded with DGP's Disk Award.[8]
