| '''Balkrishna Phatak''' was a [[Secretary of State for War|war secretary]] in the [[Maratha confederacy]] in service to the [[Peshwa]] [[Madhavrao II]] and several other generals of the Maratha forces. He fought in the [[Battle of Kharda]] on March 11, 1795, alongside his father [[Chimnaji Phatak]]. | Originally from [[Ratnagiri|Kasop]], Phatak was a member of the [[Chitpavan]] [[brahmin]] [[Phatak (surname)|Phatak]] ''[[Noble house (term)|gharana]]'' of [[Jambhali]]. He mother was Uma Phatak, and he was the eldest of two sons. His uncle Ramchandra was an ancestor of Y. V.
