He later moved to [[Muscat]] in [[Oman]].

==Early life==
Zohurul Hoque was born on 11 October 1926 in the Deubari village of [[Karimganj district|Karimganj]], bordering present-day [[Bangladesh]], in the [[Assam Province]] of the [[British Raj]]. He belonged to a [[Sunni]] [[Bengali Muslim]] family.

==Career==
Zohurul Hoque earned his medical degree from [[Assam Medical College]] in [[Dibrugarh]]. He studied Public Health at the [[University of Calcutta]] and at the [[University of Michigan]], [[Ann Arbor]]. He worked as Director of Health Services for the state of Assam, India and as a National Consultant to [[World Health Organization]].

He published a [[Bengali language|Bengali]] translation of the [[Qur'an]] in 1986, after working on it for 12 years. He had started to work on an Assamese translation before the Bengali translation was complete. Hoque published the Assamese translation of The Quran in three volumes. He started work on an English translation in 1993. He published a book with more than 1250 pages titled ''Translation and Commentary on The Holy Quran'' on April 1, 2000. ==Death==
