In 1970, Hamid passed the [[Central Superior Services of Pakistan|CSS exam]] to join the [[Central Superior Services of Pakistan|Central Superior Services]] (CSS) where he worked with the [[Government of Punjab, Pakistan|provincial government]] of [[Punjab, Pakistan|Punjab]] but resigned in 1978 from the [[Central Superior Services of Pakistan|CSS]] to start career in politics.
