==History==
Zabaan was established in August 2009 by Ali Taqi and his former student Christoph Dusenbery, both United States citizens, who had been teaching [[Hindi]] in [[Seattle]].<ref name="Rau 2013"/> They saw a need for a quality language institute in [[New Delhi]] to cater to expatriates living there for work.<ref name="Rau 2013"/> The initial business goal was to provide only [[Hindi]] language instruction starting with 25 students.<ref name="Rau 2013"/> After some time the institute began offering classes in Urdu, Sanskrit, and Pashto.<ref name="Rau 2013"/> The school offers classes on reading and writing [[Nastaliq]], the [[Urdu alphabet]].<ref name="Mahajan 2012"/><ref name="Joshi 2012">{{cite web|last1=Joshi|first1=Vimal Chander|title=For love of Urdu language|url=http://www.deccanherald.com/content/280806/for-love|publisher=[[Deccan Herald]]|access-date=9 August 2016|date=25 September 2012}}</ref> The interest in Urdu matches a rising demand to understand Urdu use in [[Bollywood]] and to appreciate [[Urdu poetry]].<ref name="Joshi 2012"/>
