Yashpaul was born in [[Gujranwala]] in 1937. Yashpaul first performed when he was 11 years old at the "Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan".<ref name=autogenerated1 /> He is the oldest alumni of Swami Harballabh Sangeet Akademi, Jalandhar.
