He was Minister of State under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1967 to 1977 including as Minister of State with Independent Charge of Information and Broadcasting.&lt;br /&gt;
Despite a versatile career, Shukla&amp;#039;s role as Information and Broadcasting Minister during the [[The Emergency (India)|Emergency]] period had got him some odium as propagandist for [[Indira Gandhi]]’s government.
