On 5 July 1918 Fane became Colonel of the 21st Punjabis (a ceremonial appointment),&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{London Gazette |issue=30781|date=5 July 1918|page=7951 |nolink=yes}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and in 1920 also Colonel of the Manchester Regiment.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{London Gazette |issue=31987 |date=20 July 1920|page=7729|supp=y |nolink=yes}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He continued to serve with the Indian Army, being a district commander in Burma.
