== Early life ==&lt;br /&gt;
Mahurkar was born in [[Indore]], [[Madhya Pradesh]]. His family moved to Gujarat after independence. He was educated in [[Baroda]], a former [[Maratha Empire|Maratha]] [[Princely state]]. He graduated in [[Indian History and Culture Society|Indian history and culture]] and archaeology from [[Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda|Maharaja Sayajirao University]] in 1983 and joined &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The Indian Express]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in the same year as a sub-editor at [[Ahmedabad]].{{citation needed}}&lt;br /&gt;
