He served as governing secretary for Gandhi&#039;s [[Sabarmati Ashram]] milk project near [[Ahmedabad]]. [[Gulzarilal Nanda]], who later became Prime Minister of India, was the secretary of another unit. Both of them were trusted friends of Gandhi.
