== BPL Group ==
In 1963, T. P. G. Nambiar established BPL (British Physical Laboratories) in Kerala. The company began by producing precision measuring instruments and medical equipment, such as ECG machines. At the time, India's access to high-tech healthcare devices was limited, so BPL's entry into medical electronics addressed a significant gap. Over time, BPL expanded from healthcare technology into consumer electronics, gaining recognition as it adapted to broader market demands.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Consumer Electronics Giant BPL Is Plotting A Quiet Revival |url=https://www.forbesindia.com/article/indias-family-businesses/consumer-electronics-giant-bpl-is-plotting-a-quiet-revival/46353/1 |access-date=2 November 2024 |website=Forbes India |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |date=4 May 2016 |title=BPL to be back in consumer electronics market in India |url=https://www.electronicsforyou.biz/headlines/bpl-back-consumer-electronics-market-india/ |access-date=2 November 2024 |language=en-US}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |last=Thomas |first=Pramod |date=7 October 2016 |title=BPL was India's largest exporter of TVs: Ajit Nambiar |url=https://www.newindianexpress.com/business/2016/Oct/07/bpl-was-indias-largest-exporter-of-tvs-ajit-nambiar-1525936.html |access-date=2 November 2024 |website=The New Indian Express |language=en}}</ref> BPL's partnerships with global firms such as Sanyo <ref>{{Cite news |date=19 May 2005 |title=Sanyo plans wholly-owned unit as venture with BPL yet to take off |url=https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/brand-equity/agency-news/sanyo-plans-wholly-owned-unit-as-venture-with-bpl-yet-to-take-off/articleshow/1116266.cms?from=mdr |access-date=2 November 2024 |work=The Economic Times |issn=0013-0389}}</ref> and Siemens <ref>{{Cite web |last=Fried |first=Rona |date=6 January 2010 |title=Siemens, BPL Global Team-up on Smart Grid Offerings |url=https://www.sustainablebusiness.com/2010/01/siemens-bpl-global-team-up-on-smart-grid-offerings-46222/ |access-date=2 November 2024 |website=Sustainable Business |language=en-US}}</ref> from Germany played a crucial role in its development. These alliances enabled the exchange of technology, helping BPL to establish more pleasing research and development team, as well as manufacturing skills. Nambiar took advantage of these partnerships to broaden BPL's range of products and strengthen its technological infrastructure, enabling the company to stay competitive in the market during the 1980s and 1990s.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Service |first=Express News |date=1 November 2024 |title=Tributes pour in for BPL founder TPG Nambiar |url=https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/karnataka/2024/Nov/01/tributes-pour-in-for-bpl-founder-tpg-nambiar |access-date=2 November 2024 |website=The New Indian Express |language=en}}</ref>

== Legacy ==
BPL's influence declined over time, but Nambiar is still recognized for his role in promoting an Indian electronics brand capable of competing with international majors. During a period when most consumer electronics were imported, Nambiar sought to establish locally manufactured, high-quality products accessible to Indian consumers. His contributions helped BPL become a familiar name in the 1980s and 1990s, especially for products like televisions, audio systems, and VCRs, which became popular in Indian households.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Madhiraju |first=Pallavi |date=4 November 2023 |title=The legacy of BPL: Tracing the history of India’s pioneering electronics |url=https://business-news-today.com/the-legacy-of-bpl-tracing-the-history-of-indias-pioneering-electronics-giant/ |access-date=2 November 2024 |website=Business-News-Today.com |language=en-US}}</ref>

Nambiar also invested in local manufacturing and training, which contributed to job creation and supported India's electronics ecosystem. His work set a foundation for future advancements in the electronics and technology sectors.<ref>{{Cite news |last=PTI |date=1 November 2024 |title=PM Modi condoles T P G Nambiar's demise, hails his contributions |url=https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/pm-modi-condoles-tpg-nambiar-demise/article68818129.ece |access-date=2 November 2024 |work=The Hindu |language=en-IN |issn=0971-751X}}</ref>
