Kohale was a corporator in the [[Nagpur Municipal Corporation]] (NMC) at the time of election, he then represented the Mhalgi Nagar ward. Kohale defeated sitting MLA Dinanath Padole, of the [[Nationalist Congress Party]] and former minister Satish Chaturvedi of the [[Indian National Congress]].
