== Functions ==
States Election Commission in India are responsible
for the supervision of state level elections.<ref name="IE"/> It is responsible for conducting elections to urban local bodies such as [[Municipal corporations of India|municipal corporations]] and [[Municipal council (India)|municipalities]], and [[Panchayati Raj|panchayat]] institutions such as [[Gram panchayat|village panchayats]], [[Panchayat samiti|block panchayats]], and [[District council (India)|district councils]]. At the states and union territories, the elections to the [[Parliament of India|national]], the [[State legislative assemblies of India|state legislative assemblies]], [[State legislative councils of India|state legislative councils]] and the offices of the [[President of India|president]] are conducted under the direction of the [[Election Commission of India]] and is supervised by the chief electoral officer of the state or union territory.
