== History ==
The [[East India Company]] set up a military station here due to its location on the bank of river [[Ganges]] at a junction with other rivers like the [[Son River]] from the south and the [[Ghaghara]] and [[Gandaki River]] from the north. Rivers were important transport routes before railways were built in India.

The British built a church at the station to provide for the spiritual needs of its servants and medical aid. The construction of the church started in April 1827 by Captain I Thompson of British Engineers. It was completed in 1830 under the guidance of Captain W Sage of the 48th Native Infantry.<ref name="times">{{Cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/patna/Danapurs-silent-sentinels/articleshow/5713238.cms|title=Danapur's Silent Sentinels|date=22 March 2010|first=Kumod|last=Verma|website=The Times of India|language=en|access-date=2020-01-28}}</ref> It was later named St. Lukes Church of Patna.

The [[Belfry (architecture)|belfry]] was a later addition.
