The college traces its history to 1882, when the [[Paris Foreign Missions Society|Missions Etrangeres' de Paris]] established St Joseph's European High School.{{citation needed|date=December 2016}} Its operations were handed to the Jesuits in 1937 and the Department of Commerce created in 1949. In 1972 [[St. Joseph's College, Bangalore|St. Joseph's College]] was divided, with its College of Arts and Sciences and its College of Commerce becoming independent, although both remain under the administration of the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society. In 1996 SJCBA started offering two-year, full-time Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with recognition from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt Of India.
