==Death==<br />
Sonika sustained a fatal head injury in a car accident in the early hours of 29 April 2017. The vehicle belonged to [[Vikram Chatterjee]], who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Vikram took Sonika to Ruby Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Vikram initially denied that he was either speeding or under the influence of alcohol at a press conference,<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0GeERI6Z5M |title=she is very dear to me, actor Vikram Chattopadhyay says on press conference about Model So |publisher=[[YouTube]] |date=2017-05-05 |accessdate=2020-04-16}}</ref> but forensic reports have confirmed that he was driving at a speed of 100–110&nbsp;km/h just seconds before the collision with a jewellery store and a flag post on Kolkata's Rashbehari Avenue. Initially, Vikram was only booked under Section 304 A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). But after massive public outcry, police added the non-bailable section 304 (culpable homicide) against the actor.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/sonika-chauhan-vikram-chatterjee-bail-actor-kolkata-police-alipore-sessions-court-road-mishap-1026468-2017-07-26 |title=Kolkata court grants actor Vikram Chatterjee bail in model Sonika Chauhan death case |website=Indiatoday.in |date=2017-07-26 |accessdate=2020-04-16}}</ref> He was arrested on 7 July 2017 after a period during which he was absconding,<ref>{{cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/sonika-chauhan-death-case-actor-vikram-chatterjee-arrested/articleshow/59483998.cms |title=Vikram Chatterjee: Sonika Chauhan death case: Actor Vikram Chatterjee arrested |website=Timesofindia.indiatimes.com |date=2017-07-07 |accessdate=2020-04-16}}</ref> and released on bail on 26 July 2017.<ref>{{cite web|author= |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/19-days-after-arrest-vikram-gets-bail-from-alipore-court/articleshow/59781005.cms |title=Sonika Chouhan death: 19 days after arrest, Vikram Chatterjee gets bail |website=Timesofindia.indiatimes.com |date=2017-07-27 |accessdate=2020-04-16}}</ref><br />
