Chatterjee argues that the Shiva Crater was formed around 65&amp;lt;!--Chatterjee claims the structure is around 65 million years old partly based on radiometric analysis of rocks. Changing it to 66 simply because the K/T boundary moved is potential WP:SYN. That requires a reference more recent than 1997.--&amp;gt; million years ago, about the same time as a number of other impact craters&amp;lt;!--This is no longer technically true except for Chicxulub. At the time of the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction, India was located over the [[Réunion hotspot]] of the Indian Ocean. Hot material rising from the [[Mantle (geology)|mantle]] flooded portions of India with a vast amount of [[flood basalt|lava]], creating a plateau known as the [[Deccan Traps]].
