Akali Dal Amritsar was formed on 1 May 1994 at Shri Akal Takht (highest temporal seat of Sikhs), a six-member committee of Simranjit Singh Mann, Capt. [[Amarinder Singh]], Retd col. [[Jasmer Singh Bala]], Bhai Manjit singh, [[Surjit Singh Barnala]] and [[Jagdev Singh Talwandi]] was constituted to build up the structure of new party. ==Electoral success==&lt;br /&gt;
Its biggest success was in the [[1989 Indian general election|1989 Parliamentary elections]], when it won 6 out the 13 seats in Punjab.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;[http://eci.nic.in/eci_main1/ElectionStatistics.aspx Election results - full statistical report]&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; They represent the ethos which espouses the separatist ideology Khalistan, a separate homeland for Sikhs. &lt;br /&gt;
The party won 1 parliamentary seat of [[Sangrur]] in 1999. Following Since  the party has not fared well in elections held in Punjab and has not won any seat in Ethier state or General election.&lt;br /&gt;

==Ideology==&lt;br /&gt;
The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has advocated formation of Khalistan at times. It identifies as a party formulated on ideals of equality and brotherhood, is explicitly anti-caste and is supportive of the causes of peasants and farmers. It is critical of staged encounters on the side of governmental authorities in the 1980-90s period. &lt;br /&gt;
