== Biography ==
Patel was born on 7 March 1932.{{Additional citation needed|date=December 2024}} He obtained a degree in engineering from the [[University of Cambridge]] before returning to India.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web |author=Scroll Staff |date=20 December 2024 |title=Shirish Patel, urban planner and civil engineer, dies at 92 |url=https://scroll.in/latest/1077027/shirish-patel-urban-planner-and-civil-engineer-dies-at-92 |access-date=25 December 2024 |website=Scroll.in |language=en}}</ref> He started his career working on infrastructure projects, including the [[Kariba Dam]] on the [[Zambezi]] river, a work he did for a French engineering firm, and the [[Koyna Dam]] in Maharashtra.<ref name=":0" />
