He completed his [[Master of Science|master of science]] (Integrated) in physics from [[Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur|IIT Kanpur]] in 1985. He was awarded his [[Doctor of Philosophy|PhD]] in 1990 from [[California Institute of Technology|Caltech]], [[Pasadena, California|Pasadena]], USA. Later he went on to work as a [[Postdoctoral research|post-doctoral]] [[research associate]] at [[Institute for Advanced Study|IAS]], [[Princeton University|Princeton]] until 1992.
