Chatterjee started his career as a journalist for ''The Telegraph, Kolkata's'' news desk in 1984 and worked there until he moved to New Delhi in 1990, joining ''The Times of India''.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web |title=Team {{!}} Indian Film Institute |url=https://www.indianfilminstitute.org/team |access-date=2023-08-14 |website=IndianFilmInstitute |language=en}}</ref> He currently reviews film for ''NDTV'' and is the senior editorial consultant for the ''[[Financial Chronicle]]''.<ref name=":0" /> He was the founding member of Indian Film Institute and currently serves as its Vice Chairman.<ref name=":0" />
