S. P. Velumani, was born on May 10, 1969, in Sugunapuram, [[Kuniyamuthur]], [[Coimbatore]] district, to E.A Palanisamy and Mayilathal. S. P. Velumani holds an [[Master of Arts|M.A.]] degree and an [[Master of Philosophy|M. Phil]] from [[Annamalai University]].{{cn|date=March 2021}}

He served as Kuniyamuthur Municipal Chairman. He won the 2006 Tamil Nadu state legislature elections from [[Perur]] constituency as an AIADMK candidate. He registered marginal victories in the 2011 and 2016 elections from the newly formed constituency of Thondamuthur.{{cn|date=March 2021}}
