''S.K.D.A.V Government Polytechnic for Women'' was established in the year 1967 by ''Mrs. Sushilavati Khosla'' who was wife of ex- Governor of Odisha Dr. [[Ajudhia Nath Khosla]]. She donated an amount of Rs One Lakh for starting this college in collaboration with D.A.V Trust. In the year 1974, the Institute administration and funding was taken by Government of [[Odisha]] and by the year 1990 the institute had its new campus which was located at Bansanti Colony of city [[Rourkela]].<br />

In the beginning, the institution offered courses in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Library & Information Science. Subsequently, from year 2001 to 2010 the institute started new branches of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Civil Engineering to its curriculum.<br />

From year 1967 to 2012 the Institute imparted diploma education exclusively to girl students around the state of Odisha.
