==Career==
Hay was educated at [[Bradfield College|Bradfield]] and [[University College, Oxford]]. He was commissioned in the [[Dorsetshire Regiment]] in 1914<ref>{{London Gazette |issue=28922 |date=2 October 1914 |page=7819}}</ref> and served during [[World War I]] in [[Mesopotamian campaign|Mesopotamia]].
