The museum includes banknotes from the early 1800s, early private and presidency banks.<ref name=":1" /> The portrait notes of British monarchs such as Queen Victoria, King George V and VI are also included in the museum, while India’s colonial history has been preserved through the notes from French and Portuguese India. The book provides the entire history of Indian bank notes since 1770, when the [[Bank of Hindostan]], a private bank situated at Calcutta issued its first banknotes of India.
