Ravi Kant Sharma joined [[Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh]] (RSS) at the young age of 15 in the year 1982 and joined [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] in the following year of 1983. He spent the next 5 years as a member of [[Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad]] (ABVP) till 1989 before moving to [[Chandigarh]] for studying computers in the same year. He joined the [[Bharatiya Janata Party]]'s [[Chandigarh]] unit in the year 1996.<br />

He assumed office as Mandal President, BJP Chandigarh in the year 2006 and progressed on to District President in the year 2012.<br />

Sharma was elected in the [[2016 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election]].<br />
