The release of the water from the dam is to Kakkad river which in turn flows and joins Pamba river and flows through Taluks such as Ranni, [[Konni, Kerala|Konni]], [[Kozhencherry East|Kozhencherry]], [[Thiruvalla]], [[Chengannur]], [[Kuttanad]]u, [[Mavelikkara|Mavelikara]] and [[Karthikappally]].
