His career as a writer started in 1942, his first Hindi composition was published in monthly journal ''Kishor'' in Patna. Later he got popularity for his writing like Bhojpuri play Loha Singh. In 1960s his Bhojpuri short story ''Machhri'' was published in the April edition of weekly journal Anjor.<ref>{{Cite book|last=Hussain|first=Taiyab|title=Bhojpuri Sahitya ke Sankshipt Ruprekha|publisher=Shabd Sansaar|year=2004|isbn=|location=Patna|pages=20}}</ref> In 1991 he was honoured with Padma Shree award.
