He made his lone performance for the [[Kenya Select]] team in their inaugural season, and found himself called up to the national squad for their tour of Europe, including a [[Kenyan cricket team in the Netherlands in 2008|tour of the Netherlands]] and the [[2008 World Twenty20 Qualifier|2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier]].<ref name="callup"/>

In a [[2013 World Twenty20 Qualifier|2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier]] match against [[Nepal national cricket team|Nepal]], Patel scored 103 off 45 balls, batting at [[batting order (cricket)|number 6]].
