	सैनिक क्षत्रिय के पूर्वज मूलतः राजपूत सैनिक और सामंत थे। वे दिल्ली के मुस्लिम सम्राटों, जैसे साहबुद्दीन गौरी, कुतुबुद्दीन ऐबक, शम्सुद्दीन इल्तुतमिश, गयासुद्दीन खिलजी और अल्लाउद्दीन खिलजी के खिलाफ अपनी वीरता के लिए प्रसिद्ध थे।

	विक्रम संवत 1249, अर्थात् 1192 ईस्वी में, भारत के अंतिम हिन्दू सम्राट पृथ्वीराज चौहान के पतन के बाद, राजपूत सैनिकों को बड़े युद्ध में धोखे से हराया गया। यह युद्ध शहाबुद्दीन गौरी या मोहम्मद गौरी के नेतृत्व में लड़ा गया था। इस संघर्ष में कई वीर राजपूत शहीद हुए और कई को बंदी बनाया गया।

	कुछ राजपूतों को गजनी में मारा गया, जबकि अन्य को इस्लाम कबूल करने के लिए अलग रखा गया। जिन लोगों को बचे रहने का अवसर मिला, उनके पास केवल दो विकल्प थे – या तो इस्लाम अपनाएं या अपना जीवन खतरे में डालें। इसी समय कुछ राजपूतों ने माहूर माली समाज के बोबा माली की मदद से अपने अस्तित्व को सुरक्षित किया। माहूर माली जाती के एक माली थे जिनका नाम बोबा माली था और शाही माली के रूप में कार्य करते थे। बोबा माली ने राजपूतों की जान बचाने के लिए गजनी से सिफारिश करी और कहा कि वे राजपूत नहीं है बल्कि वे तो माली है मेरे रिश्तेदार है । इस प्रकार कई बोबा माहूर माली ने उन राजपूतो की जान बचाई, जिन्हें बाद में राजपूत माली कहा गया । वे राजपूत चौहान,दहिया,टांक,गहलोत,सांखला,कच्छवाहा,भाटी,सोलंकी,तंवर,परिहार,पंवार,देवड़ा,राठौड़ गोत्र के थे ।कुछ लोगों को लगता है को सैनिक क्षत्रिय समाज के लोग बागवानी करते थे लेकिन ऐसा नहीं है। सैनिक क्षत्रिय समाज के लोग किसानी करते थे।

Later Ghori tied Prithviraj ji Chauhan's [[Rajput]] army and also Prithviraj ji [[Chauhan]]. Then later Ghori took Prithviraj Chauhan and his Rajput army along with him to [[Ghazni]] where he persecuted Prithviraj Chauhan and his Rajput army. A Rajput soldier who did not accept the religion of Islam was killed and some Rajput soldiers were afraid of dying, so they accepted the religion of Islam, which these Muslim Rajputs today call "Ghori and Pathan". Some Rajputs used to be sold as slaves by Mohammad Ghori and it was the soldiers who did not accept slavery and they had to take a step to protect their country, religion and family, which was going to be very heavy for them. He called Kheti Mahur, a gardener who works in mohammad Ghori's garden, and requested him to get rid of some of the prisoner soldiers by referring to his caste. In a few months, after mutual agreement, Bagwan Kheta Mahur recommended to the emperor Ghori and rescued these Rajput soldiers from their caste as Mali.
