Rajendra Tiku was born in Wadwan,<ref name="Kashmir Times" /> a remote village in the mountainous landscape of [[Jammu and Kashmir (state)|Jammu and Kashmir]], the northernmost state of India, in 1953,<ref name="Shrishti Art">{{cite web | url=http://www.shrishtiart.com/Artist_Profile.aspx?ArtistId=232 | title=Shrishti Art | publisher=Shrishti Art | date=2014 | access-date=17 October 2014}}</ref> in a [[Kashmiri Pandit]] family.<ref name="Daily Excelsior" /> He did his primary schooling at a local school and passed his matriculation from a high school in [[Srinagar]].
