&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Rai Bahadur]] Purna Chandra Lahiri&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, [[Justice of Peace|JP]] (1872-1942)&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt; was and Indian Police officer during British Raj of India. He started his career as an Inspector of Police in Calcutta and retired as Deputy  Commissioner of Police of Calcutta.&amp;lt;ref name=a&amp;gt;{{cite book|title=The Modern Review, Volume 72 by Ramananda Chatterjee|year=1942|publisher=Prabasi Press|pages=179–180|url=https://books.google.com/books?ei=vjSLUoioFLGViAf734HYBA&amp;amp;id=mvwEAAAAMAAJ&amp;amp;dq=Rai+sahib+Poorna+Chandra+Lahiri&amp;amp;focus=searchwithinvolume&amp;amp;q=+Lahiri}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; As an Inspector of Police, it was he who arrested several nationalist leaders like [[Bhupendra Nath Bose]] in 1907&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite book |title=Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik and his times |first=Amaledndu |last=De |authorlink=Amalendu De |publisher=National Council of Education, Bengal |page=96 |year=1996}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and later  [[Aurobindo Ghose]] in 1908 in connection with the [[Alipore bomb case|Alipore Bomb Case]].&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;The Modern Review by Ramananda Chatterjee - 1959- Volume 106 - Page 287.&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He served in various posts in [[Calcutta Police]] also as Criminal Investigation Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police till he got promoted to post of Deputy Commissioner of Police, the highest post Indian could serve in Police in those times.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;Terrorism in Bengal: Terrorists outside Bengal deriving inspiration from and having links with Bengal terrorists by Amiya K. Samanta, Government of West Bengal, 1995 - Page 107&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt;&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;The Criminal Law Review - Volume 9, 1918 - Page 49&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; His role was highly appreciated in handling of 1926-27 Hindu-Muslim riots of Calcutta, which began in April 1926 and took unprecedented fury and ferocity.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt; Before his retirement, he had served as right-hand man of four successive Commissioners of Police of Calcutta.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt; He retired from service in 1927 when [[Sir Charles Tegart]] was the [[Police Commissioner of Kolkata|Commissioner of Police, Calcutta]].&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt;  In view of his services he was first created as [[Rai Sahib]] in 1911&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;[http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/28453/pages/10/page.pdf London Gazette 1911]&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and later elevated to status of Rai Bahadur in 1917.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt; He died in year 1942.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt; He was survived by his widow and his son, Protul Chandra Lahiri, who also was an Indian Police Service officer.&amp;lt;ref name=a/&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
