As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, [[Purbasthali (Vidhan Sabha constituency)|Purbasthali]] and [[Nadanghat (Vidhan Sabha constituency)|Nadanghat]] constituencies ceased to exist and in its place [[Purbasthali]] now has two assembly constituencies. No. 268 [[Purbasthali Dakshin (Vidhan Sabha constituency)]] covers Nandai, Kankuria, Begpur, Atghoria Simlan, Dhatrigram and Sultanpur gram panchayats of [[Kalna I (community development block)|Kalna I]] community development block and [[Nasratpur]], [[Samudragarh]], [[Nagpur]], [[Sreerampur]] and [[Nadanghat]] gram panchayats of [[purbasthali I (community development block)|Purbasthali I]] community development block. The West Bengal political scenario has changed dramatically over the years. In the early years after independence it was a scene of fluctuating fortunes between the Congress and the Left wing parties, till the latter captured power in the late seventies.
