The thangal was born in the Pukkoya family of northern Kerala. He was widely believed to possess the Grace of [[Karamat]] and was revered for his "saintly" qualities by the Kerala Muslims. The tangal is also said to be the Shaikh of the al-Aydarusiyya wa-Alawiyya.<ref name=":0" /><br />
