==Description==
This robust beetle is about 5 to 6 mm in length. Elytra reddish orange in color with black central line. Adults show polymorphism with several intermediate and pale forms.<ref name= SL>{{Cite web |title=Predatory Coccinellids (Coleoptera: Cocinellidae) of vegetable insect pests: a survey in mid country of Sri Lanka |url=http://www.pgia.pdn.ac.lk/files/Annual_congress/journel/v19/9_Predatory_Coccinellids.pdf |access-date=2021-09-08 |website=Tropical Agricultural Research Vol: 19, 69-77 (2007)}}</ref>

==Biology==
Sexual maturity of male and female ladybirds is about 7 and 9 days respectively. Adult males are more willing to mate with females irrespective of age. Mating duration is longest amongst older adults where 30 day-old males and 20 day-old females can be found.<ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Pervez |first1=Ahmad |last2=Omkar |last3=Richmond |first3=Aaron S. |date=2004 |title=The influence of age on reproductive performance of the predatory ladybird beetle, Propylea dissecta |url=https://doi.org/10.1093/jis/4.1.22 |access-date=2021-09-08 |journal=Journal of Insect Science |volume=4 |page=22 |doi=10.1093/jis/4.1.22 |pmc=528882 |pmid=15864355}}</ref><ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Pervez |first1=Ahmad |last2=Omkar |date=2004-09-01 |title=Temperature-dependent life attributes of an aphidophagous ladybird, Propylea dissecta |url=https://doi.org/10.1080/09583150410001682313 |access-date=2021-09-08 |journal=Biocontrol Science and Technology |volume=14 |issue=6 |pages=587–594 |doi=10.1080/09583150410001682313|s2cid=85045032 |url-access=subscription }}</ref> Chemical signals as well as visual and tactile cues initiate male attraction toward females. Mating lasted longest about 275 minutes when it occurred between unmated individuals.<ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Omkar |last2=Ahmad |first2=Pervez |date=2005 |title=Mating behavior of an aphidophagous ladybird beetle, Propylea dissecta (Mulsant) |url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1672-9609.2005.00006.x |access-date=2021-09-08 |journal=Insect Science |volume=12 |pages=37–44 |language=en |doi=10.1111/j.1672-9609.2005.00006.x|s2cid=84497808 |url-access=subscription }}</ref>
