== Life ==
Bhartwan was born in a village in [[Raipur, Uttarakhand|Raipur]], Uttarakhand. He began performing folk songs at the age of 13, along with his uncle. His songs follows the [[Jagar (ritual)|Jagar]] tradition of music.<ref name=":0" />

Since 2011, he has been a guest lecturer at the [[University of Illinois at Chicago|University of Illinois]]. He has recorded over 1,000 folk songs. In 2019, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the [[President of India]].<ref name=":0" />
