It was established on 4 February 1991 by some educationists in order to raise the education level of the greater Puthimari area. It adopted its current name in 2001, which was originally Pioneer Montessori School. <br />

The first batch of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) candidates passed out in 2002 with a 100% passing rate which the school has maintained. In 2010, a student of Pioneer Academy secured 20th position in the HSLC merit list.
