Payyavoor is located 43 km north east of District HQ [[Kannur]], 30 km east of Taluk HQ [[Taliparamba]] and 20 km north of [[Iritty]]. The nearest municipality [[Sreekandapuram]] is 10 km away.&lt;br /&gt;

The Festival in the Temple of Lord Siva here is very famous which is celebrated from 1 to 12 Kumbham . There is a Knanaya Catholic Church in the town named St. Anne&amp;#039;s Church.&lt;br /&gt;
==Oottu Festival at Shiva Temple==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Oottu festival at the temple of Lord Shiva is the unique celebration of the village. It is celebrated from 1 to 12 of Kumbam, the 7th month as per the [[Malayalam Calendar]], every year. People, irrespective of caste and religion, come to celebrate this festival. The Festival starts on 12 February (Makaram 30) and ends on 24 February (Kumbham 12). The Festival is considered as  &amp;#039;Sangamma&amp;#039; of the people from Kodagu and Kerala. Before the commencement of the festival devotees from Kodagu arrive at the temple with their cattle and offerings of rice that is used &amp;#039;Prasada oota&amp;#039; for festival time. A variety of legends exist on the beginnings of this festival.&lt;br /&gt;

Payyavoor is a hilly village on the eastern side of Kannur district.  The terrain is undulating in nature and the extreme eastern side has forests bordering Karnataka state.
